We are delighted to be kicking off our 2018 events programme once again with one of our most popular events of the year - the annual Turnaround Review / Preview meeting kindly hosted by GVA. CPD

At this event we bring together a panel of experts from the Turnaround and Corporate Recovery market to give their view on the main features of their market sector during 2017 and their forecast for market trends during the coming year.

Our panel for 2018 comprises:

Rob Asplin - MD Better Capital, Stephen Cowperthwaite - Retail Specialist - GVA, Peter Manning - Simmons and Simmons and Geoff Rowley - FRP

About our speakers

Rob Asplin is an investor, working at the turnaround fund, Better Capital.  He joined at its formation in January 2010 and leads the transactional requirements of the group - company acquisitions, disposals, restructurings and refinancings. Prior to this he was an M&A advisor. Rob Asplin

Previous experience includes BDO Corporate Finance, Jasper Corporate Finance and Lloyds Banking Group.

Rob is a chartered accountant and Durham University graduate.



_Stephen Cowperthwaite is a Senior Director in our Retail Agency team, based in our Liverpool office. Stephen advises the major food retailers, large space occupiers, high street retailers and Landlords on a broad spectrum of property matters. This includes advice on new store acquisitions, terms of proposed sale and lease backs, terms of new leases and advice on asset management opportunities including regears, extensions, redevelopment and disposal of surplus assets. Stephen also regularly provides advice to investors and developers in respect of investment acquisitions and forward funding opportunities.




Geoff RowleyGeoff Rowley
Geoff is focused on providing restructuring advice to boards of directors, lenders and investors on a range of corporate matters.

He works with colleagues across a number of FRP Advisory’s service lines including corporate finance, forensics, debt and pensions advisory. This reflects the broad nature of assignments which Geoff is asked to advise upon.

He has been providing restructuring advice for over 25 years and is also a member of FRP Advisory’s management board helping guide and influence the ongoing success of the firm




Ros Goode is Regional Senior Director for London and National Head of the Restructuring team at GVA. Ros is responsible for the management of the London office and to promote the business in the national and international real estate communities. Supporting the financial success and growth of the business through business development and internally through recruitment and effective liaison underpinned by a strong culture and platform of collaboration. Ros Goode

Ros has been in the real estate business for nearly 30 years and has specialised in providing advice to banks and insolvency practitioners on a wide range of property related lending and recovery matters in the South East. During this time Ros has been involved with many well-known public and private businesses that have become insolvent.


Peter Manning



Peter Manning is a partner at Simmons & Simmons where he leads the restructuring and special situations group as well as being head of the Firm’s banking group.  He advises the full range of stakeholders in insolvency and restructuring situations including distressed investors.  He has over 30 years’ experience in restructuring.  Recent mandates have included Bolton Wanderers Football Club, GHG (a £2.1bn securitisation restructuring), HMV, Slater & Gordon, OW Bunker, Opal Student accommodation, the Kodak Pension Scheme, Powa Technology and Endeavour Energy.
